iBlank is an application that allows you to easily create blank/transparent icons. This is ideal for custom modding. I know Doug uses a blank icon under Stack on his dock. It is also nice for lining up your icons exactly how you would like them or use with certain themes. Here is how the app works.
When you open iBlank, you will get the main screen which contains instructions on how to use the application. All you need to do, if you would like to create a blank icon, is select the Create Blank Icon button at the bottom of the page. You will then get a pop-up saying that the icon has been successfully created. Select OK and then hit your Home Button. Your iPhone will respring and you will have a blank icon on your SpringBoard. If you are having trouble finding your blank icon, just make your icons wiggle (tap and hold any icon until they all start wiggling). You can then find it because you will see a space with an x in the top left corner but no icon. Continue reading »

The update to WinterBoard seems to make one small visual change to the application. If one of the themes/mods has a long title, it looks little cleaner now (at least I think it does…that might be from the last update and I just forgot!). Other than that, there were not any changes to the actual UI of the application. Below is the complete change log.
Version 0.9.2692-1 Change Log:
• Theme Widget WebApp Clips Icons
• FontName-* Key to Replace Fonts
• Improved Long Label Rendering
• Sped up UIImage Cache Access

Cracked Screen is an application that will make your iPhone or iPod Touch look as though it has a cracked (broken) screen…similar to the application Cracks that was available for firmware 1.1.4 and below). When you launch Cracked Screen, you will get a main application page with instructions on how to used the application.
The first thing you will need to do is take a screenshot of your SpringBoard. So, close the Cracked Screen application and take a screenshot of your SpringBoard (if you need info on how to take a screenshot of your SpringBoard, check out our f.a.q page). Once you have a screenshot of your SpringBoard, go back into the Cracked Screen application. Next, select the Open Image Picked button at the bottom of the page. This will bring you to your Photo Albulms where you can then go into your Camera Roll and select the screenshot of your SpringBoard. Continue reading »

I recently wrote an article about the themes that are currently available via the MacCiti source. Because the MacCiti source is primarily a themeing source, it also includes a few wallpaper packs. I’m always torn when it comes to wallpaper packs…they are an easy way to get wallpapers onto your iPhone or iPod Touch giving you more modding ability but, I don’t always want to install them because I don’t know what all the wallpapers look like or if I even want all the wallpapers in the pack. So, I thought I would make things a little easier on you and show you what is in each of the four wallpaper packs currently available in the MacCiti source. The four wallpaper packs include; TamsWalls, MacCiti Wallpaper Pack, MacCiti Aura and GH Wallpaper Pack.
Remember, when you install wallpapers, they are added into your stock Settings application under the option Wallpaper. For those of you who are curious, wallpaper are located in the Library/Wallpaper folder on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Below are the screenshots. Continue reading »

I do not normally write about updates to applications but, I was impressed with how quickly an update for Doodles was released and with the features it fixed/changed!
If you remember from my initial review of Doodles, there were a few issue with the ability to change the background once you had selected it. In the previous version of the application, if you used a photo as the background, you were unable to change it. Well, with this version, that has been fixed. You can now change the background no matter what it is. Continue reading »

Doodles is a simple drawing application that is available in Cydia via the iSpazio source. When you first open the application you will get a white page with a lower menu bar…this is actually the main drawing page of the application. The options on the lower menu bar are (left to right); Save, Background Options, Line Options, Symmetry Options and Erase.
The Background option allows you to choose a background for your drawing. You can choose a solid color, a photo out of your Photo Albums or you can take a picture. The only issue I have with this option is that once you have selected a background, there is no way to delete it. You can change the background if you have chosen a color background but you cannot erase the background and if you set a photo as the background or taken a photo for the background you can neither change it nor erase it. You have to close the application and reopen it to start over. Continue reading »

Well, after a six long days of traveling and family get togethers for Christmas, I’m working my way through the Cydia apps that were released in the last few days. Below are a few notable WinterBoard mods. The first mod is a dialer mod which changes your phone keypad. Apple X Dialer, via BigBoss, does exactly what it sounds like….gives your dialer an Apple X theme. The second mod is a keyboard mod. Carbon Fiber Keyboard, via BigBoss, is a mod that will give your keyboard a carbon fiber look. Both of these mods installed and worked correctly for me. The third mod is my favorite…a Safari Progress Bar mod via BigBoss. This mod changes the loading bar in Safari when loading a web page. It comes in a few different colors including; Dark Blue, Aqua, Red, Orange, Lime, Green and Pink. All of these mods are activated via WinterBoard. SEe screenshots below. Continue reading »

As many of you know, saurik (Jay Freeman) is the developer of Cydia, WinterBoard and Cycorder. He recently responded to a comment informing everyone of what he has been up to, things he is working on for Cydia, WinterBoard and Cycorder and how a few other projects are coming along (iPhone Binary Toolchains, Non-Objective-C Languages). Below are a few clips from his response “letter.” You will want to check out THIS link to read his full response. Continue reading »

Birthdays is very simple application that allows you to keep track of upcoming birthdays. In order for this application to actually work, you will need to add (or have) Birthdays assigned to your Contacts. To add a Birthday to a contact….go to your Phone app, select Contacts, select a contact, tap Edit is the upper right corner, scroll down and tap on Add Field, scroll down and tap Birthday, enter the date of the person’s Birthday and tap Save in the upper right corner.
When you open the Birthdays application, you will see the main screen in which it displays birthdays in the current month, next month and then any other birthdays. The list will display the contacts name and the day and the month of their birthday. If you tap one of the people in the list, you will be able to see that person’s contact info. Though, you can’t actually call them from within the Birthday’s application which I think is most definitely a necessity!! Continue reading »
