I’ve looked into a craigs list app for the iPhone before but the only one I could find cost $2.99. Gizmodo wrote about craigsphone today so I thought I’d check it out. The first thing that bugs me about this app is that you can’t view listings by their category in the for sale section. It’s all mixed together. You also have to be careful when you’re looking at an item and want to go back, you have to wait for the for sale button to load. Otherwise, if you do it too fast, the browse button is still there and it takes you all the way back to the first login screen.
Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of good features to this app. First that it’s free, then the sweet icon. There’s lots of other categories than just “for sale” like housing , jobs, resumes, etc. You can create a new post right from your iPhone. It looks like they’re working on a nearby feature but there’s a warning that says, “Nearby features currently work only in the SF Bay Area and Manhattan.” And finally, something to remember. If you’re going to create a post on your iPhone you have to upload the images first under the account tab. Continue reading »
iBlank is an application that allows you to easily create blank/transparent icons. This is ideal for custom modding. I know Doug uses a blank icon under Stack on his dock. It is also nice for lining up your icons exactly how you would like them or use with certain themes. Here is how the app works.
When you open iBlank, you will get the main screen which contains instructions on how to use the application. All you need to do, if you would like to create a blank icon, is select the Create Blank Icon button at the bottom of the page. You will then get a pop-up saying that the icon has been successfully created. Select OK and then hit your Home Button. Your iPhone will respring and you will have a blank icon on your SpringBoard. If you are having trouble finding your blank icon, just make your icons wiggle (tap and hold any icon until they all start wiggling). You can then find it because you will see a space with an x in the top left corner but no icon. Continue reading »
12 seconds? Well, according to the application’s developers, this is how long one will continue paying attention to a video without losing interest. Still reading? Well, if you’re a fan of Twitter, and if you’re handy with a web cam, then chances are you might already be aware of 12seconds.tv. I was unaware of the site and as an iPhone user, I don’t have access to video recording capabilities (note to Mr. Jobs, any chance of video in a future iPhone?) Anyways, the 12seconds team has come up with a temporary solution with its native iPhone app now on sale in the App Store.
Overview
Basically, once you have a 12seconds.tv account (you can sign up quickly through the application), you can immediately record an update with your iPhone. Since there is no video capability built into the iPhone, what you will be doing is creating a 3-picture slideshow and adding 12 seconds of recorded audio to your broadcast. Continue reading »
It seems that yellowsn0w has been updated to version 0.9.5 beta. The Dev Team says that the update should, “fix quite a few problems including some STK issues.” They also suggest that everyone update to the newest version of yellowsn0w. For more info - check out the Dev Team’s website. Let us know in the comments if the update fixes any of the problems you were having.
The update to WinterBoard seems to make one small visual change to the application. If one of the themes/mods has a long title, it looks little cleaner now (at least I think it does…that might be from the last update and I just forgot!). Other than that, there were not any changes to the actual UI of the application. Below is the complete change log.
Version 0.9.2692-1 Change Log:
• Theme Widget WebApp Clips Icons
• FontName-* Key to Replace Fonts
• Improved Long Label Rendering
• Sped up UIImage Cache Access Continue reading »
I’ve never been much of a card game player. From time to time, I’ll break out the Bicycle decks for some Texas Hold’em at home with friends. On the computer, I’ll play Solitaire, maybe Hearts on occasion. I think I tried Bridge once, but that adventure ended quickly. However, one card game does come to mind that I often enjoyed. It was called “BS” in college and another version that I often played with my family was called “Rich Man, Poor Man”. Apparently, this game is referred to as “Big 2” in Asia, and the developers of “Big2Poker” claim that it is one of the more popular games overseas. Honestly, my first thought when seeing the name “Big 2 Poker”, was that this was just going to be another form of Texas Hold’em or another version of an online poker game. Thankfully, I was wrong. We thought this app was pretty funny and thought we’d share it with you. It’s pretty simple and you can have fun showing it to family and friends. It turns your iPhone into electric shaver. What makes this app good is the realistic sound effects. Notice touching your finger to the screen makes the sound change to a cutting whiskers sound. Here’s a demo video from the developer:
The developer sent us 6 free promo codes to give away to our readers. All you have to do is let us know you’d like a free download code for eShaver in the comments and the first 6 will get them. Just make sure you use your email address in the field when entering the comment.

Cracked Screen is an application that will make your iPhone or iPod Touch look as though it has a cracked (broken) screen…similar to the application Cracks that was available for firmware 1.1.4 and below). When you launch Cracked Screen, you will get a main application page with instructions on how to used the application.
The first thing you will need to do is take a screenshot of your SpringBoard. So, close the Cracked Screen application and take a screenshot of your SpringBoard (if you need info on how to take a screenshot of your SpringBoard, check out our f.a.q page). Once you have a screenshot of your SpringBoard, go back into the Cracked Screen application. Next, select the Open Image Picked button at the bottom of the page. This will bring you to your Photo Albulms where you can then go into your Camera Roll and select the screenshot of your SpringBoard. Continue reading »
I’ve always liked math. Multiplication tables, story problems, and solving equations all seemed to come natural to me. There were definitely times when my love for math would put me in the minority. Then, the sudoku craze hit and later, Nintendo had a wildly popular game in its Brain Age series for the DS. Suddenly, people were getting very excited about math and numbers. Thus, when I saw the application Math Sticker, I was intrigued, but my first thought was that it was a kids program. The “sticker” part of the name threw me for a loop. After downloading the app, I soon figured out why it was so named.
With the new year, comes a new writer to Apple iPhone School. We are very excited to be adding David to the team! By day, David is a High School Chemistry teacher…go Chemistry!! By night, he is a lover of all gadgets but is partial to his iPhone 3G (which he stood in line for on that wonderful July day). He is an experienced blogger, check out his blog, and that combined with the love for his iPhone has led him to become a part of our writing team. David does bring a new perspective to the table as he has a stock (unjailbroke) iPhone 3G. Look forward to reading his reviews of App Store apps and iPhone accessories.

Well, it is official, an iPhone 3G unlock is now available! Here is a link to the article that contains the iPhone 3G unlock sources. We are linking to the actual article instead of just posting the sources in case they are ever changed. They provide one source for Cydia and another for Installer. All you need to do is add the corresponding source into Cydia or Installer on your iPhone 3G…if you need instructions on how to do so please see our f.a.q. page.
Happy New Year from everyone here at Apple iPhone School!! We hope you had a great 2008 and we are looking forward to what 2009 will bring! We can already look forward to one things…an iPhone 3G unlock (YAY!!) and I’m sure we will see many new accessories, applications and maybe even some changes to the iPhone and iPod Touch!? I look forward to an exciting year!
The Dev Team has released some info about the iPhone 3G unlock. Previous information is true that the unlock will work with the newest version of iPhone firmware 2.2 and the baseband that comes with it, version 02.28.00. This means that if you upgraded to 2.2 without using a custom firmware the unlock will still work. It also means you will need to update to 2.2 if you are still on 2.0 or 2.1. The unlock software, called yellowsn0w, will be available via an app in Cydia or Installer. We’re still waiting on the Dev Team to release the Source URL that you need to add to Cydia or Installer. Once we get it, we’ll let you know. We’ll also post a walkthrough of the process. You can read more about the release of yellowsn0w on the Dev Team’s Blog.
